What did the ecosystem historically look like?
Due to the river siltation large muddy estuarine areas occur in the west coast of Taiwan, the formation of a series of shallows and wide tidal zone, very suitable for the growth of mangroves. The eastern coast is mostly steep rocky and steep slope, not suitable for the survival of the mangroves. Early west coast of Taiwan is likely to have large tracts of mangrove distribution.
